I am talking about using a car that has temp plates and such. Is this okay to do with services like Uber or Lyft? I honestly don't know but I am asking for a friend. They are going to be buying a new car and want to use it for driving but they don't know if they will need to wait to start.
Uber accepts both official and temporary registration documents. The vehicle does not need to be registered in your name to qualify.
Your motor vehicle must meet all applicable inspection requirements and you must maintain a valid inspection certificate of approval for the vehicle on your car and a copy in your account.

I was coming in this discussion to say "of course not!" so I am very surprised.
Maybe there are temps drivers out there who bring a licenced driver with them all day. It's good driving practice I suppose!
I think this is fine but not for a long period of time. I can't remember all the outlined rules for this but I do know that you have to have active insurance and you can't drive for them without that!
I know Uber is okay with this but I am not sure about Lyft or if their policies are slightly different. You can always call or shoot them an e-mail and ask so you know without a doubt that it is okay.
